We are offering a unique job opportunity to conduct research in different fields of Optical Physics: modeling diffractive elements, meta-surfaces, dielectric, semiconductor and metal waveguides (including optical fibers), light scattering by surfaces and small inhomogeneities in a volume. This job provides a wide range of opportunities to invent and bring to fruition new life-changing technologies for displays, optical connectivity, integrated optics, etc.
The successful candidate will
• Work from the Corning Scientific Center in St. Petersburg, Russia and closely interact with other Corning R&D teams around the globe
• Provide technical leadership and/or individual technical contribution for research projects, in which Fundamental and/or Applied Optical Physics is involved.
• Play a leading role in creation of relevant IP to protect key inventions related to novel technical solutions
Day to Day Responsibilities:
• Develop, implement and validate numerical models for optical waveguides, optical components based of diffractive elements and meta-surfaces, surface and volumetric scattering of light
• In collaboration with experimental and testing groups, design experiments for validation of the numerical models
• Prepare technical presentations and reports for Technology and Management teams
• 10-15% global travel is expected.
Required Education and Experience:
• Master's Degree, with Ph.D. preferred, in Theoretical Physics with emphasis on Physical Optics
• 3-5 years of relevant experience of modeling and simulation of novel optical phenomena and devices.
Job Requirements:
• Strong background in Mathematical Physics, especially in methods applied in Electrodynamics .
• Good understanding and practical experience of statistical methods of data processing
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English are required to facilitate direct interaction with Corning global research teams
Job Preferences:
• Good command of general purpose computational tools, specifically MATLAB, Mathcad, C/C++ and Python
• Experience in the use of commercial software ZEAMAX, LightTools, COMSOL, RSoft
• Established track record of technical achievements in Fundamental and/or Applied Optical Physics
• Project Leadership skills • Independence, scientific curiosity, ability and desire to learn new areas.
